In Aporie
131: Hatje Cantz, 2019. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Discover the groundbreaking world of Alicja Kwade — one of the most exciting and intellectually daring artists of her generation. Based in Berlin and born in 1979 in Katowice, Poland, Kwade has risen to international prominence over the past decade, firmly establishing herself as a leading voice in contemporary art.
In Aporie is the first-ever monograph devoted to her work, offering an immersive journey into her extraordinary artistic universe. The title refers to a state of philosophical paradox — a moment when an unsolvable problem reveals the limits of our own knowledge. This tension between certainty and doubt lies at the very core of Kwade’s practice.
Fearlessly engaging with complex scientific and mathematical concepts, Kwade transforms ideas such as probability theory, wormholes, the infinite cosmos, and parallel realities into striking objects, sculptures, and installations. Her works challenge perception, question reality, and invite viewers to reconsider the structures that shape our understanding of the world.
Richly illustrated and thoughtfully composed, this beautifully produced volume features extensive imagery alongside insightful essays by leading Danish experts. Text in English. 367 pp. As New. Item #2590
