Eskelinen recorded the daily life of ordinary people. In order to create real feeling in his pictures, he lived together with foresters in their barracks. As a devoted photojournalist, he photographed the joys and sorrows of everyday life with sympathy and understanding and often in his pictures were shot through with humour. The powerful pictures in this book illustrate what life was really like in North Karelia in those decades.
