Item #2891 Finnland. August Thieme, Robert Schweitzer.

Finnland

86: Aue-Stiftung, 2012. facsimile. Hardcover. In a poem in German language, published 1808 in Vyborg, August Thieme, a teacher of the regional school system, boldly praises Finland as tantamount to Italy or Greece in its beauty. He points out the endeavor, diligence, ingenuity, even literacy of its people, and almost draws the typical picture of the "nobility of primitive man".

The poem is reproduced as facsimile together with metric translation in the other three languages of Vyborg at the time - Finnish, Swedish, and Russian. The volume commemorates the 200th anniversary of the decision of Tsar Alexander I to join Vyborg province of the Russian Empire to the newly founded autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland.

Text in German, Russian, Swedish, and Finnish. 143 pp. Slightly worn covers. Very Good. Item #2891
