The Helsinki Yunker School 1846-1879 - A case study of officer training in the Russian army

85: Suomen historiallinen seura = Finnish Historical Society, 1986. 1st Edition. Soft Cover. Text in English. 319 pp.
The Helsinki Yunker School was Russian officer training establishment that functioned between 1846 and 1879. It was an early example of officer training at the local level, before the regularization on a national basis in the mid-1860s of the training of potential officers who had enlisted as what were called yunkers. This history constitutes a case study of the life and work of a Russian ynker school. However, the Helsinki Yunker School always had Finnish dimension, derived from its location, the interest and support - or lack of them- on the part of the Finnish authorities, and the special arrangements made for the instruction there of Finns. The history of the School thus acquires significance as an example, perhaps even as a barometer, of Russo-Finnish relations. Near Fine. Item #3021
