Suomen paviljonki Pariisin maailmannäyttelyssä 1900 = Le pavillon finlandais à l'Exposition universelle de 1900

8: Keski-Suomen museo, 2001. 1st Edition. Soft Cover. Text in French and Finnish. 87 pp.

Finland's pavilion at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 brought Finnish art, livelihoods, education and, above all, national aspirations to widespread European awareness. The pressure measures of the imperial Russian government against the legal and national status of the Grand Duchy of Finland were reflected in the Finnish pavilion as a strong backlash. The features of the pavilion designed by the young Eliel Saarinen, interpreted as Finnish national, were emphasized when comparing it to the pompous palaces of the world exhibition or to many pavilions suffocated by their decoration. Axel Gallén's Kalevala-themed frescoes and the art industry represented by the Iris room also attracted wide attention in newspaper articles published about the world exhibition. Fine. Item #3655
