The Old Wrecks of the Baltic Sea presents for the first time a general survey as well as a discussion of the finds of the many wrecks of the old carvel-built ships under water and along the shores of the Baltic - their archaeological excavation and recording.
Carvel-built ships played a central role for trading and seafaring as well as for defence and war at sea in Europe from the 16th to the 19th century. The study of the remains of these ships thus opens the door to a unique archaeological source of information, elucidating factors of great importance to the development of our society.
The work is written for both the archaeologist and the skin diver with an historical interest in the old shipwrecks, as well as for the general reader.
The nearly 300 illustrations of the book is a unique collection of drawings, plans and photos, under and above the water surface showing the remains of the big ships of 'the old days'. Very Good / Very Good. Item #3720
