The work ORNO - Valaisinmuotilua, written by design history researchers, tells about the stages of a significant Finnish lighting factory, but above all it tells about the history of Finnish lighting design, designers and lighting collections.

Orno was a lighting company that was founded in Helsinki in 1921. The company built a factory in Kerava in 1937. Orno ceased operations in 2001. The book tells the story of the development of a small art workshop into a significant designer lighting manufacturer.

In the earliest days, the company's lighting was designed by, among others, Gunilla Jung and Gunnel Nyman. From the end of the 1940s until the 1960s, Lisa Johansson-Pape and Yki Nummi were Orno's most important designers. Heikki Turunen and many other prominent names in Finnish design also worked for Orno. The work examines the light fixture as a design object and the change in design with periods of style, social situation, industrial and technical development, and new materials.

The richly illustrated book contains pictures not only of lighting but also of advertisements, sketches, exhibitions and trade fairs, as well as interiors where lighting is part of the decor. Very Good. Item #3831
