Pernå kyrka = Pernajan kirkko : Medieval Finnish greystone church

66: Pernå Parish, 1989. Soft Cover. Text in English and German. Illustrated by the lovely photography of Kristoffer Albrecht. **** Pernå Church is a medieval church building in Loviisa, Finland. The greystone church was presumably built between the 1410s and 1440s. There has been a church of some kind in the same place since the 14th century or even the 13th century. The church is decorated in several different eras: a baptismal font from the 14th century, a triumphal crucifix from the 15th century, a fragment of a shell fence from the 17th century, a pulpit and an altar cabinet from the 1650s, among others. In addition, the interior is decorated with limestone paintings, most probably from the 1440s. The exterior of the church is decorated with intricate brick details. The bell tower of Pernaja Church was built in 1853. The stained glass windows of the church date from 1939 and were designed by Lennart Segerstråle.
