The album in two books contains over 500 illustrations reproduced from originals preserved at various repositories in the Soviet Union, primarily at the Tchaikovsky Commemorative Museum in Klin; some of the originals are at present in foreign countries.
Book One is a chronicle in pictures of Tchaikovsky's life and work, with excerpts from his letters, diaries and critiques, and also from writings of his contemporaries. A whole section contains reproductions ofall known photograph portraits of Tchaikovsky, with exact dates, inscriptions and comments, Book Two deals with the performances of the great Russian composer's music in his own country and abroad, with the Tchaikovsky Commemorative Museums at Votkinsk and Klin, and with the International Tchaikovsky Competition.
