Philosophy of Montage, Montage of Philosophy is artist and critic Kimmo Sarje's (b. 1951) visual and conceptual inter-cutting of crucial themes of the end of the last century; of the erosion of socialism and the modern. Sarje's montages engage in dialogue with the philosophy of the modern using visual parallels, and his writings probe postmodern questions. He re-works the modernists and avant-gardists, from Barnett Newman to Vladimir Lenin and from Kazimir Malevich to Alvar Aalto and Sigurd Frosterus, sometimes dismantling them, sometimes constructing them.
