The photographs in this publication – the first Lumieres Nordiques collection – are a range of variations on the theme of landscape. These Finnish photographers view their land with an open-minded sensitivity, transforming it, leaving it unaltered, reshaping it as they wish. Their images transport us to white, icy places, occasionally near-abstract, with an intense blackness or enlivened with subtle colours, evoking the age of exploration. People and animals sometimes cross the scenes where man-made architecture also makes its presence felt.
