Tove Jansson began her artistic career as a cartoonist. She debuted with a joke drawing in Garm when she was fifteen, and in the 30s and 40s she was the magazine's most popular illustrator. She illustrated texts and jokes, but also made up her own joke drawings, all with unmistakable artistic ambition.
