Finnish Jazz was first published in 1974, and this is the fourth edition. By the time each edition is released, the next generation of musicians has moved up to the front line on the Finnish jazz scene and new promising youngsters are making their breakthrough.
This edition is very similar in structure to its predecessors: the primary goal is to provide an overall picture of Finnish jazz by means of general articles and pen-pictures of individual musicians and composers. From now onwards we shall, however, also be issuing an annual review of the main events, new talents, record releases, etc., in the preceding year. The review will also give important details of people to contact. As a result you will be able to keep up-to-date on what is happening in Finnish jazz. The annual reviews can be stored in the handy pocket at the back of the book.
