The Dynamics of Learning Entrepreneurship in a Cross-cultural University Context

115: University of Tampere, 2005. Soft Cover. Text in English. 382 pp. Light wear to the covers.

In this book, voices from around the world speak about new ways of conceiving, developing and nurturing entrepreneurship education for our students at university level. In a multi-cultural conversation, multiple perspectives are offered of how entrepreneurial learning is actually pursued in various contexts and, most importantly, a vision is presented of how its goals could be pursued in the future. Consequently, this book doesn't pretend to give the best ways for developing entrepreneurial competencies among university students. Rather, it aims to challenge the reader's own views about this important task and stimulate further conversations and dialogues.

Allan Gibb opens this dialogue by presenting the need for a whole range of competencies that are needed for actualizing students entrepreneurial potential. The ensuing contributions by other authors help us to better understand that there exist many ways of conceptualizing entrepreneurship education and taking concrete actions for cultivating it in a higher education context. The experiences shared in this book show that the energizing and bridging role of the teacher is the catalyst in this process and that her/his action must be strongly supported by a complex blend of many elements of the environment, for example, policy makers, administrators of universities, etc....

Finally, this book presents a panorama of ideas that entices us to actively exchange views with other entrepreneurship educators. It should help us, as a world-class community, to go further in searching for a more entrepreneurial educational environment. And... if we think of ideas as seeds, it should help us to become better gardeners for entrepreneurship. Near Fine. Item #6588
