Leica : The First 70 Years
109: Hove Books, 2002. Hardcover. Text in English. 240 pp. Rubbing and few scratches to dust jacket.
The first edition of this book when it was published in 1975 as Leica - The First 50 Years soon became the accepted standard history of the Leica camera. It was totally revised and updated ten years later and became Leica- The First 60 Years. Now here it is completely revised, in a larger format and with many more pictures, with even more historical information as well as being brought right up to date with all the new products of the past ten years.
Gianni Rogliatti, with his journalist's curiousity and love of fine machinery, has continued his research ever since the original edition, visiting Wetzlar and latterly Solms talking to his friends among the senior staff and management and delving into the archives to prize out more historical information.
The results of his efforts render this latest edition of his classic work still the most comprehensive account of Leica history, making it the perfect companion to Hove's Leica Collectors Guide. This is the story of the Leica from its inception to the present day, told through the detailed accounts of all models produced in that time, and arranged to show the genesis of one model from another. There are comprehensive chapters on military, limited edition, special purpose, factory, dummy and experimental cameras, as well as chapters on lenses, accessories and technical background. The book is rounded off with a complete list of Leitz code words for photo products, and the Leica serial number list, brought up to 1992, which is as far as information has been released.
