This publication introduces the exlibris art of Janne Laine, who designs bookplates both on commission and as gifts for loved ones. His bookplates have achieved acclaim in numerous ex libris competitions around the world.
The visual motifs are inspired by the book owner´s values, profession or personal interests, but the thematic content is conveyed on a symbol level: Laine´s bookplates inherently possess the character of miniature artworks rather than illustations. Laine uses photographic printing processes both in his bookplates and other artistic works. His bookplates are black-and-white, sometimes accented with shades of bluish-grey or sepia.
